The wildflower season in Southern California is one of the best we’ve seen in years. And even though the rains have passes and we had a short heat wave, there are still delightful pockets of vibrant orange, yellow and purple blooms across the state.
Today, we stole some time away and ran off to the desert (my homeland!) for a dive into waving orange and heather seas. The poppies are glowing and many in the field we found were on their first or second bloom, showing plenty of pregnant buds ready for the weekend.
We stopped by the California Poppy Reserve outside of Lancaster. There are still some blooms there but the surrounding hills are your best bet for fuller fields.
Both photos are from my phone at the reserve. More to follow (and more art budding along with the flowers!).
